Forty-fifth Year

UNFADING VERDURE

His leaf also shall not wither” (Ps. i, 3).

HE winter of age is upon my brow but the everlasting spring is in my heart and I am living in the eternal years.”  So wrote Victor Hugo as he began to grow old.

   The heaven touched spirit never ages.  The life of God can never die.  Our joy, our zest, our love should be ever green.  “I am like the green fir tree,” should be the testimony of everyone of us and the secret of it is in the next clause, “From Me is Thy Fruit Found,”

“Thou art the same today and yesterday,
Oh, make Thy life in me the same alway;
Take from my heart the things that pass away,
   And lead me in the way everlasting.

“Give me the heart that naught can change nor chill,
The love that loves unchanged through good or ill,
The joy that through all trials triumphs still,
   And lead me in the way everlasting.”
