THE FRUIT OF GENTLENESS

“The fruit of the Spirit is gentleness” (Gal. v. 22).

HIS is what might be called the good manners of love.  “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us.”  Many good Christians have anything but good manners.  Even when we have to say frank things and severe things, it is blessed to be able to say them gently.  Oh, the gentleness of God.  “His gentleness hath made me great,” was David’s testimony.  How tenderly the Master dealt with sinful men and women.  How His gentleness broke Peter’s heart and saved him from despair.  How kind His very reproofs are to us.  How gentle the Holy Spirit; grieved rather than angry when we disobey Him.  Lord, give us Thy gentleness and make us “gentle, showing all meekness to all men.”
