“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,” etc. (Gal. v. 22).
VERY thoughtful reader of this passage has noted the difference between the “works” of the flesh and the “fruit” of the Spirit. The flesh works. The Spirit overflows in spontaneous life and blessing. It is just as natural for the new life to be sweet and holy as it is to breathe. The palm tree cannot help bearing fruit because it has the fruit in its sap and root and in its inmost life. The secret of right living is to be ever filled with the Spirit and it will manifest itself according to our temperament, circumstances and relationships in all the graces, fruits and ministries of a consecrated life.
“Come, blessed, holy, heavenly Dove,
Spirit of light and life and love,
Revive our souls, we pray.”
