THE FRUIT OF GOODNESS

“The fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth” (Eph. v. 9).

OODNESS is benevolence.  It is the outflow of love seeking the good of others.  It is a kind heart always doing kind things and seeking to make others happy.  It is the embodiment of Christ’s latest beatitude: “It is more blessed to give than receive.”  It is the second blessing of Abraham: “I will bless thee; be thou a blessing.”  The Apostle makes a distinction between a righteous man and a good man and he says for the latter “some would even dare to die.”  It is said of Christ, “He went about continually doing good.”

Like Him, let it be true of us, “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them that are of the household of faith.”
